Fire fighters were able to bring a forest fire raging in Doi Suthep-Pui National Park under control on Monday morning but were keeping a close watch for fear it could flare up again in the extreme heat and drought conditions and spread out again.
The fire began inside Doi Suthep-Pui National Park about 3pm on Sunday and spread quickly, bruning throughout the night and casting a red glow over the area.
Park rangers and fire crews found it difficult to fight the flames due to the difficult terrain.
Fire crews used all available equipment to prevent the fire from spreading further.
The huge blaze was declared under control on Monday morning after it had razed a large area of forest.
Park staff remained on watch in the area and were building more fire breaks at vulnerable spots.
